Maine Fish and Wildlife Magazine
Maine Fish and Wildlife magazine fall edition now available online
Augusta, Maine – The fall edition of Maine Fish & Wildlife, the magazine of the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, now is available online only.
The magazine can be viewed at http://www.flipseekllc.com/maine2009fall.html or by visiting www.mefishwildlife.com.
The magazine features programs, initiatives and projects that are being worked on by IF&W employees. As stewards of Maine’s natural resources, these endeavors are considered essential to preserving and protecting the state’s quality of life and its economic foundation. Combined, outdoor activities such as fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, boating, ATV riding, and wildlife and bird watching, contribute $2.4 billion to Maine’s economy.
Among the features in this issue, outdoor enthusiasts can read:
“The Final Charge:” how one New Sweden woman’s discovery of two locked-antler moose became a unique display now featured at L.L. Bean in Freeport;
Hunter Safety: Legislation and mandatory safety courses have lead to significant declines in hunting-related incidents;
Don’t Move Firewood: Outdoor recreationalists are urged to buy Maine firewood instead of importing it from other states in an effort to stop invasive species from entering our woods;
Wild Brook Trout Survey: Anglers are encouraged to give us their thoughts on the native wild brook trout;
Beginning this year, IF&W has been producing its decades-old publication online only in an effort to save money. By doing so, the Department is reaching more readers than by selling magazine subscriptions. The last three editions each reached close to or exceeded 20,000 readers.
An additional benefit to producing an online magazine is the inclusion of videos and Internet links that readers may find helpful for more information.
