The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and the Maine Professional Guides Association are seeking nominations for the annual Wilmot “Wiggie” Robinson Legendary Maine Guide Award.
The award, in its second year, is named in honor of Wilmot “Wiggie” Robinson, a well-respected outdoorsman who was a Maine Master Guide from 1950 until his death in 2007.

Fall Fishing
Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010People are creatures of habit and generations of Mainers have been raised to put away their fishing rods (and get out their shotguns) when the calendar turns to October. Fact is, some our best cold-water fishing occurs from the time when the open-water season traditionally ended (Sept 30) until things freeze up sometime in December. Recently, the state’s bear hunters and trappers have come under more scrutiny.
First it was in reaction to news that a houndsman was seriously injured on a bear hunt in September, and again when an opinion piece in the Portland Press Herald misled the publicabout the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife’s management of the species.
